Consumers Want a Magic Button to Press

Silver bullets. Magic wands. These are powerful and persuasive ideas in our culture… in spite of a tendency to believe we are highly logical beings and in spite of the fact that there is no silver bullet in business and no magic wands in general.

Although they will NEVER admit it, people desire the things that will make them younger, sexier, more powerful, richer.

(The Dalai Lama is perhaps the exception here.)

What’s more is that people are willing to believe that you have it.

That’s why everyone’s got some piece of exercise equipment collecting dust in their garage. That’s why there are diet fads.

Don’t take advantage of this – but don’t hold back if you have a product that will rock their socks off.

Roll with the inertia of your customers’ desire.
